WELCOME TO THE 38TH IBBY
INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS

On behalf of the organising committee, it is our pleasure to warmly welcome you to the website of the 38th IBBY International Congress due to be held in Putrajaya, Malaysia from 5 to 8 September 2022.

Putrajaya, home to all of Malaysia’s federal government ministries, will be the first city in Southeast Asia to hold this prestigious event. Approximately 20km north of the Kuala Lumpur International Airport, Putrajaya is ‘an intelligent garden city’ that is aesthetically pleasing and environmentally friendly symbolising the nation’s modernisation agenda and its Islamic heritage and identity.

Our theme for the 38th edition is ‘The Power of Stories’, as we hope to explore the common stories that appear in children’s literature across countries, cultures and educational systems. We will compare and share our stories, and discuss on what we can learn from each other’s stories and how stories can help us understand each other’s role, identity, approaches and challenges. We also hope to explore how stories can be a powerful tool for shaping our beliefs and behaviours; for advocacy, change, building bridges; and help in making sense of our world.

We look forward to welcoming you in Putrajaya, Malaysia. IBBY Malaysia (MBBY) is honoured to be hosting the congress in 2022. We hope you will join us to make the event a successful and memorable one! Please visit this website regularly for updated information.

IBBY INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS

IBBY international congress is a biennial event bringing together IBBY members and other people especially practitioners, activists, and supporters of children’s literature, books and reading development.

Every two years a different National Section hosts the Congress and the hosts are selected from submissions made by IBBY national sections five years before the congress date.

Participants attend the keynote addresses, research paper presentations, panel discussions, seminar sessions and workshops on current congress themes. During an IBBY International Congress various other meetings are also held, such as the General Assembly and the presentation of different exhibitions and celebrations which include the Hans Christian Andersen Awards, the IBBY Honour List, the IBBY-Asahi Reading Promotion Award, and the IBBY-iRead Outstanding Reading Promoter Award.
